Ms Nancy Powell, US Ambassador, on Friday expressed America’s appreciation for Ghana’s solidarity during last week’s terrorist attack in New York and Washington.
She said: “The US is very grateful for the fact that Ghanaian flags flew at half-mast as a gesture of solidarity.”
Miss Powell said in a statement that President John Agyekum Kufuor was the first President to express sympathy to the government and the people of the US.
“America is also appreciative of the memorial service organised by the American Chamber of Commerce that was attended by Vice-President Aliu Mahama and numerous ministers of state.”
Ms Powell said 63 nations, including Ghana, have lost their people through the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.
The statement said the US would, in the coming days, move aggressively to punish not only those responsible for the attacks but those who harbour the terrorists.
