Urban Council appeals for road rehabilitation

Senya Beraku (C/R), May 12, GNA – The Senya Urban Council chairman, Mr Kwame Onassis Anderson, on Wednesday appealed to the government to rehabilitate the twenty-five-kilometre Senya Beraku-Winneba road to make travelling very comfortable and save.

Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Senya Beraku, Mr Anderson said most people from Senya area had to risk their lives and also spent more hours on the road to Winneba, the district capital to transact business, due to the bad nature of the road. He said that most of the vehicles plying the area often broke down; while owners of new vehicles have withdrawn them, this sometimes create transportation problems in the area.

Mr Anderson said to meet maintenance cost drivers plying the road had been compelled by the situation to over load their vehicles to the disadvantage of passengers.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba, the chairman of the Winneba Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr Kofi Atta confirmed the bad condition of the road. According to him the present lorry fares of 5,000.00 cedis for Urvan bus and 6,000.00 cedis for taxi being charged by drivers do not meet operational cost, considering the condition of the road. He therefore, added his voice to the call to government to tar the road once and for all to alleviate the suffering of the people in the area.
