UPU Director General arrives in Accra

Accra, June 20, GNA – Dr Edouard Dayan, Director-General of the Universal Postal Union, arrived in the country this evening to attend the 25th Ordinary session of the Administrative Council of the Pan African Postal Union in Accra.

The meeting will be held from June 22nd to 24. In a brief with journalists, Mr Dayan observed that new developments such as the Internet and the electronic mail were not a threat to the postal system, adding that new areas were being opened on the Internet for better postal services.

Dr Dayan said Africa was one of his priority areas, adding that the postal sector had a strong potential of enhancing Africa’s development. Professor Mike Ocquaye, Minister for Communications, who met Dr Dayan on arrival said postal service were still utilised by many people. He said there was the need to focus on how best to maximise and enhance the quality of postal services.
