Upper West Regional Minister appeals to teachers to call off strike

Wa, Oct 23, GNA – Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister on Monday appealed to striking basic and second cycle school teachers to call of their strike action and engage in negotiations to resolve their grievances.

Mr Dery made the appeal when he met with a delegation of Ahmadiyya Muslims who called on him, after holding prayers to mark the end of the month-long Ramadan fast.

He said the strike action was causing irreparable harm on the affected schools children and urged the teachers to return to the classrooms 93in the interest of the children=94. He appealed to Imams to continue to preach and pray for peace and unity of the country, which he said, was a prerequisite for the progress and development of the nation.

Mr Dery also appealed to those who had not yet registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme to do so in their own interest, and for the growth of the scheme.

Maulvi Mohammed Yassin, Regional Missionary of the Ahmaddiya mission, offered prayers for President J.A. Kufuor, his Ministers and the entire nation.
