Upper East Regional minister inaugurates -Union.

Bolgatanga, March 9, GNA- The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr.Mahami Salifu has inaugurated the Wa Union made up of citizens from the Wala Traditional Area resident in the region, with a call on members to maintain close links with their leaders back at home to contribute to decisions they take to improve the lives of the people.

He also advised members of the union to appreciate the value of peace and avoid fuelling conflicts by supplying arms and ammunitions to factions back home.

Mr. Salifu urged members to take the scourge of the HIV/AIDS pandemic seriously by protecting themselves, and appealed to them to register during the impending registration exercise to make an impact in the democratic process,

Mr. Ibrahim Saeed Bamporimbu, president of the union, said the union aims, among others, at fostering the general welfare of members and promoting the culture of the traditional area.

It also seeks to promote peaceful co-existence between the peoples of the Upper East and Upper West regions.

Solidarity messages were delivered by the Sisala Union, as well as the Nandom, Nadowli, Lawra and the Jirapa youth associations of the Upper West Region.
