Upper East Region to get an airport

The Upper East Region will soon get an airport to help curtail the frustration on the part of people travelling by road to Tamale, to board aircrafts.

Regional Minister Alhaji Limuna Mohammed–Muniru and Deputy Regional Minister Daniel A. Syme toured the project site at Sumbrungu near the regional capital Bolgatanga.

“The opening of an airport in the region will definitely generate massive employment and put money into people’s pockets thereby reducing poverty,” said Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru.

Regional Engineer of the Ghana Highway Authority, Paul Betirh, said the area has been assessed by the Civil Aviation Authority and proven to be suitable for airline operations.

He indicated that what is needed is for the government to ensure that the necessary facilities befitting the standards of airline operations are put in place for the commencement of the project.
