Upper East keep vigil in honour of Prez Mills

People from all walks of life thronged to the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to keep vigil and pay their last respects to late President Mills.

Although the body of the President was not in the Region, people demonstrated their sorrow with tears and gestures amidst dirges, played by volunteer local musicians.

Mr. Edward Ayagle, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in an address said the best way Ghanaians could pay tribute to the late President was to follow his legacies of honesty, humility, transparency and accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

Another way, he said, to honour the late President was for the political parties to conduct their campaigns towards the 2012 election devoid of insulting language and assassination of characters.

The Reverend Amos Jimmy Markins, Church of Pentecost, Rev. Esmond Nagba Wasau, Chairman of the Upper Presbytery, and Mallam Sualihu Haruna Rashid, an Islamist scholar prayed for peace for the country and for the rest of the soul of the Late President.

In attendance were Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), Departmental Heads and staff from all the districts, security services as well as representatives of the political parties, traditional councils and religious bodies.

The Regional Police Band and voluntary cultural troupes performed and danced to many tunes.**
