Upper East cotton farmers affected by flood receive maize

Bolgatanga, Nov 28, GNA – Cotton farmers at Mayoro in the Kassena-Nankana District who were affected by the recent floods have received 20 bags of maize from the International Parliament for Safety and Peace (IPSP), a non-governmental organization based in Italy. Presenting the items Dr Hakeem Wemah, Chairman of the Northern Development Forum, said the NGO was touched by the plight of the farmers whose crops were destroyed as a result of the flood. “Many of the farmers took loans from banks and cannot afford to pay due to the destruction of their crops,” Dr Wemah said. He said IPSP would explore more avenues to assist the flood victims in the three northern regions.

Receiving the items the Operation Manager of the Cotton Genre in charge of Upper East, Mr. Norbert Aniyie, thanked IPSP for the items and said about 100 cotton farmers’ crops were destroyed He appealed to other organizations to assist the flood victims. 28 Nov 07
