Dunkwa-On-Offin (C/R), Feb. 6, GNA-The Upper Denkyira District Assembly spent most of its share of District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) amounting to 715,600 Ghana cedis on the improvement of education and health facilities in the district.
Mr. Richard Anane Adabor, the District Chief Executive, who announced this at an assembly meeting at Dunkwa-On-Offin said the assembly viewed education as the key to development since the district’s development hinges on enhanced human resource base. “It is in this direction that a greater proportion of the assembly’s budget is devoted to the provision of educational infrastructure and improving upon the existing facilities to enhance teaching and learning”, he said. He said last year, the assembly constructed seven classroom blocks of which work on most of them was still on-going. Mr. Adabor named the beneficiary communities as Effiefiso, Asuade, Amoman, Agyempoma, Tegyamorso, Kyekyewere and Dunkwa Anglican Primary. In addition, he said 2000 desks were manufactured and supplied to schools throughout the district. The District Chief Executive said as a result of the assembly’s determination to improve educational facilities, the district placed first in Central Region ranking of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2007.
On health, Mr. Adabor said the assembly projected to construct two clinics to cater for the health needs of the people but “at the end of the year, the assembly was able to complete a rural clinic at Asma Camp and an additional one supported by an NGO at Asikuma”. He said the rehabilitation of the health post at Subin was on-going. Mr. Adabor gave the assurance that the assembly would continue to ensure the judicious use of its funds in the provision of essential infrastructure and other social amenities.
