Unknown persons desecrate corpse of Kuntanase royal

Kuntanase (Ash) April 18, GNA – Some unknown persons at Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, on Sunday desecrated the corpse of the late Nana Afia Gyebi, a royal who was buried about two months ago.

Her coffin was dug out and dumped at the entrance of the Kuntanase Royal Mausoleum, creating a state of shock in the town. The District Security Committee, which held a crisis meeting over the issue, widely believed to be linked to a chieftaincy feud called for the fumigation of the mausoleum and the immediate reburial of the corpse.

Her burial at the Mausoleum in February, this year, degenerated into a controversy as one of the factions to the dispute protested that she was not a royal. The District Commander of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police Edward Osei, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident was being investigated and called for calm.
