Students of the University of Ghana plan to boycott school if their demand for a reduction in school fees is not heeded. Such important issue needs the immediate attention of our politicians, but it seems they are less interested in the ware-fare and future of the young students. Even though majority of our present politicians passed through universities in Ghana before and are therefore aware of the financial problems Haunting the students.
Ghana could be a decent and safer place for all to live, based on our attitudes, and the best way that we want it to be. The beautification, growth and development of Ghana surely depend on all of us, most especially the young ones and our politicians.
We have to encourage our graduates and other students to serve as agents of positive change in their respective communities and the larger society at all times. Such move would lead to national development and progress, especially when the minds of the students are developed, focused and settled.
It is very important and we are all aware that, should Ghana achieve its development goals, the country’s youthful population should be provided academic, professional and vocational skills and therefore the education of Ghanaian young people must be supported to become national assets and not liabilities.
The future of our country lies in the hands of our children. They are the next leaders. So if we fail to provide the necessary training for them, you and I will never live in peace when we have gotten older. In training our children, we need to also watch the way we do things. Because the children will copy from what we do, be it bad or good. So, as role models, let our behaviours represent the norms in our society.
The individual parents too must be given the necessary assistance and encouragement to support their children to acquire education, without parental support and care, students cannot acquired knowledge and skills for graduation and promotion to higher academic levels. Basically schools are founded to provide quality education to students, and it must therefore remain committed to this goal.
Parents too must be cautious not to relent in providing educational support to their children. The younger generation of Ghana needs adequate preparation to effectively manage the affairs of the country in the near future.
Since society greatly depends on morally and educationally prepared people, the government as well as parents must always be ready to play a greater role in the up-bringing of our “future” children.
