University of Ghana to host International Leadership programmes

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – The University of Ghana, Legon has announced the commencement of the Becktwith International Leadership Development (BILD) Programmes to develop sports in the premier university.

The BILD programme is aimed at building the capacities of sports leaders, students and community leaders through the sharing of knowledge developed in the United Kingdom and from around the world to develop a sport leadership programme.

Director of Sports at the University, Dr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah in a statement copied to GNA Sports said his outfit has received a four-year financial and technical aid from UK Sport International to serve as the headquarters of the programme.

He mentioned that there will be three regional centres based at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, University of Cape Coast, (UCC) and the University for Development Studies, (UDS) Tamale.

The Director of Sports added that national trainers for the BILD programmes will undergo leadership training to be conducted by experts from Youth Sports Trust, (YST) with the maiden edition to take place at Legon from August 10 to August 20.

Dr Owusu-Ansah said two trainers from YST are in town for the training programme, which has participants from University of Ghana, KNUST, UCC, UDS, National Sports Council, Ghana Education Service, British Council, Right to Play and Student sports leaders other universities and other organizations in the country.

Ghana is the second African country after Tanzania to operate a BILD programme.
