The University of Ghana has instructed undergraduate students who finish the 2025/2026 Academic Year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 to leave their programmes.
The university said those students are not in good academic standing and must withdraw after all grades for their registered courses have been received.
The directive was issued by the Academic Affairs Directorate in a notice shared on the University of Ghana’s official Facebook page.
It refers students to Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the requirements for academic progression.
Under the regulations, students must achieve a CGPA of at least 1.00 and meet the requirements of their School or Department if they are to progress to the next level. The notice makes clear that students will not be placed on probation.
The withdrawal instruction applies to any undergraduate student whose CGPA is below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, once all grades for registered courses have been recorded.
Withdrawal process
Students affected by the decision have been told first to check their CGPAs through MIS Web.
They must then access the STS Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN. After logging in, they should select “Withdrawal Request” to begin the process.
For some programmes, the notice said, the relevant School or Department will submit the withdrawal request on behalf of the affected students. It did not identify the programmes covered by that arrangement.
Support for students
Students who need further information have been advised to contact their College Academic Office.
The university also said its Careers and Counselling Directorate is available to provide support and guidance to all students.
