University of Ghana Mourns President Mills

The University of Ghana, Legon, has expressed deep sadness on the event of the demise of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, President of the Republic of Ghana.

A statement signed by the Registrar, Mr. J.M. Budu, and released to the Ghana News Agency noted that Professor Mills was the first alumnus of the University, and for that matter any University in Ghana, to have been elected to the high office of President.

It said during his time as a member of the Faculty of Law, the late President Mills contributed immensely to the generation and dissemination of knowledge in Tax Law, his area of specialization.

“His involvement in the life of the University went beyond academics to sports. We remember his invaluable commitment to the development of sports in the University of Ghana.

“Ghana has lost a great son and the University of Ghana has lost an outstanding alumnus,” the statement said.

It conveyed the condolences of the entire university community to Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, the rest of the late President’s family, and to the people of Ghana.**
