Accra, May 7, GNA – The University of Ghana has announced disciplinary measures against several students who were found to have been involved in examination malpractices during the first semester of 2004/2005 academic year.
The disciplinary actions, according to a statement from the University on Saturday, ranged from withholding of examinations to dismissal.
The measures followed the submission of the Mfodwo Committee’s report on allegations of examination leakages and that of disciplinary committees set up thereafter.
The statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the University, said a total of 17 students were investigated out of which five had been expelled.
The dismissed students are Prince Charles Walker (ID No.10084797), Eric Boakye (ID No.10165644), Robert Kwafo (ID No.10568383), Conrad Dela Agboletey (ID No.10177519) and Kwadwo Tabiri Asenso-Okyere (ID No. 10082811).
In addition, Kwadwo Tabiri Asenso-Okyere, Prince Charles Walker and Conrad Dela Agboletey are to be prosecuted in court. Two students, Eric D. Attuah (ID No.10081664), and Michael Gaskin (ID No.10091226), have their graduation deferred for eight semesters; their results will therefore be published in the second semester of 2009/2010 academic year.
A third student, Ranger Kobla Mawuenyega (ID No.10082554) also has his graduation deferred, for four semesters; his academic results will consequently be published in the second semester of 2007/2008. Four students Awuradjoa P. Banning (ID No.10165338) have been suspended for eight semesters and may resume academic work in the second semester of 2009/2010 academic year.
Akua Nyarko Adu-Gyamfi (ID No.10161997), Nana Adoma Oppong (ID No.10170527) and Maame Ama Owusu-Sekyere (ID No. 10571115) have been suspended for four semesters each and may resume academic work in the second semester of 2007/2008 academic year.
“In addition to the various sanctions, all the affected students will have a permanent notation on their academic transcripts, and other University records about their involvement in examination malpractices in the University,” the statement said.
It said charges against four students – Emmanuel Eben Walker (ID No. 10114792), Yvonne Abena Buachiewaa Buachie (ID No. 10085022), Theophilus Arnold Walker (ID No.10172424), and George Opare-Addo (ID No.10086345) were dropped. The seventeenth student, Michael Emeka Aseme (ID No.10096088) did not respond to the summons of the Committee of Inquiry, and did not present any written response to his charges. His academic results have therefore been withheld, and a notation will be placed on all his records for his involvement in examination malpractices.
The University has been rocked by a scandal of examination malpractices that had led to the vice chancellor Kwadwo Asenso-Okyere standing aside for the investigations to be completed. 08 May 06
