Accra, Nov 5, GNA – The United States Government has awarded a grant of 30,000 dollars to support the work of the National Reconciliation Commission.
Part of the grant provided through the United States Agency for International Development would be used to finance preventive medical services currently being provided by the Emergency Response Unit of the 37 Military Hospital and give support to victim.
Part would also be used to fund the second public hearings in Kumasi; field investigations outside Accra and the travel and other related expenses of witnesses assisting in investigations as well as the publication and translation of the Commission’s report into some key Ghanaian languages.
A statement signed by Ms Annie Anipa, the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, said the Commission viewed the grant as confidence vote by the United States Government in its work.
The Commission pledged to use the funds efficiently.
Since the Commission began work in September last year it had received financial and other forms of assistance from the Open Society Initiative for West Africa; Centre for Democratic Development-Ghana, the Aisha Foundation and the South African Government.
