Unit Committees urged to assist in revenue collection

Obuasi, May 23, GNA – Thirty-eight unit committees in the Obuasi Municipality have jointly been inaugurated with a call on the members to assist the assembly to generate more revenue for development. “You should assist in revenue collection and also monitor the implementation of self-help and other development projects in your areas”, Mr. John Alexander Ackon, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), told the over 160 members.

He told them to put the general good of the people in their electoral areas ahead of individual selfish ambition. Mr Ackon said the unit committees were vehicles for deepening decentralization at the grass root level – making it easier for mass participation in local governance. He advised them to co-operate with their assembly members, saying, “let us operate as one assembly to facilitate the development of the municipality.” Mr Ackon, who swore in the members, commended them for accepting “this sacrificial job” to bring improvement to the lives of the people in their areas.
