Accra, Oct. 19, GNA -The Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU), Trades Union Congress (TUC), has in resolution called on its employers to implement without delay corrections in the disparities of salaries for its members.
A resolution signed by TEWU executive and released in Accra on Tuesday, October 19, said that at a general meeting held on Thursday, October 14, 2004, members unanimously agreed that “the long delay in the implementation of the Appellate body’s report is causing an unstable atmosphere amongst the rank and file”.
It added: “if by Friday, October 22, 2004, nothing positive is heard, we would have no alternative but to advise ourselves”.
TEWU explained that the Appellate body’s report contained guidelines for implementing corrections of salary disparities of members.
Meanwhile, Mr Dan Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU, said “the patience of our members is finally exhausted due to the scant attention of management paid to their grievances over the years”.
He said attempts to get the GES to initiate action to correct the disparities started early 2001 and since then nothing had been done to correct the anomaly.
Miss Magaret Martey, the Second National Vice Chairman who is also the Local Chairperson of the GES branch union expressed the hope that the authorities would expedite action to prevent any industrial dispute. 19 Oct. 04
