Union Berlin’s Derrick Kohn Cleared to Play for Ghana After Completing Nationality Switch

German Bundesliga club Union Berlin have confirmed that defender Derrick Kohn has officially received his maiden call-up to the Ghana national team after finalising his nationality switch.

The 25-year-old, a former Germany youth international, had been invited for Ghana’s previous World Cup qualifier but was unable to feature as he awaited FIFA’s clearance. The process required extensive documentation, delaying his debut despite the Black Stars’ interest in securing his services.

With the paperwork now completed, Kohn is eligible to represent Ghana in the upcoming international break.

His inclusion adds depth to Otto Addo’s defensive options, as the Black Stars continue their preparations for crucial fixtures in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup.

Union Berlin expressed delight at the defender’s progress, while Ghanaian fans have welcomed the news with optimism, hoping Kohn’s pace and attacking qualities from the left flank will strengthen the national team.

Kohn, who has been in strong form in the Bundesliga, is expected to compete for a starting role as he joins the Black Stars camp for the first time.
