UNIFIL GHNABATT 82 observes Remembrance Day

The 82nd Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 82) serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Wednesday 11 November 2015, marked the Remembrance Day with a call on peacekeepers serving under UNIFIL to work assiduously towards imbibing in Lebanese a lasting peace.

At a wreath laying ceremony at GHANBATT Headquarters located at Al Qawzah, South Lebanon, the Contingent Commander (CONTICO), Col Nicholas Peter Andoh assisted by the Commanding Officer (CO), Lt Col Omari John Ampadu laid a wreath on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces and all serving peacekeepers in honour of the vetrans.

Capt Noah Boahen the GHANBATT Chaplain in his exhortation entreated peacekeepers to endeavour to work towards lasting peace devoid of infractions which might be injurious to sections of the populace.

Ghanaian Staff Officers and other Staff Officers from UNIFIL headquarters, Lebanese Armed Forces and personnel of GHANBATT 82 were present. On parade to mark the day were 45 personnel including a female. The parade was under the Command of Lt Albert Adjetey Martey with the GHANBATT Corps of Drums in attendance.

The day, also known as Poppy Day was observed to commemorate those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and later conflicts. Activities carried out during the ceremony included Lighting of the Perpetual Flame, observance of a two-minute silence and laying of wreaths.
