The chief and people of Mepasem near half Assini on the Ghana Cote d’ Ivoire border have appealed to the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Air Force to confirm to them whether a helicopter that landed in the community on September 24 came from their outfit.
An elder of the town, Mr Sylvester Awotwe, told the GNA that fears had gripped the people as a result of the incident.
He said at about 0700 on that day, a helicopter painted blue and ash landed on the primary school park and when he and some people approached it, the pilot, who was the only person on board, refused to give his identity and told them that bad weather forced him to land.
Mr Awotwe said the pilot, who was in white shirt with khaki trousers, later read a map and took off.
He said a member of the local Unit Committee, Mr Daniel Segbawu, telephoned the District Chief Executive, Mr Sylvester Daddieh and the Police at Half Assini, but before they arrived the helicopter had left.
