UNESCO donates science calculators to KNUST

Kumasi, April, April 7, GNA – The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has donated 60 pieces of science calculators to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to facilitate the teaching and learning of science at the university.

The calculators valued at about 10 million dollars were meant specifically for the College of Science of the KNUST. Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Minister of Education and Sports, who presented the calculators on behalf of the UNESCO in Kumasi on Wednesday, said the gesture was a practical demonstration of the government’s recognition of science and technology as tools for accelerated development.

The Minister said his Ministry was making arrangements to secure and supply lecturers of science with special science calculators. He said being major tools for enhancement of growth and development, the government would explore all avenues to make science programmes very attractive so as to entice many more students to opt for
