Nerebehi (Ash), March 13, GNA – Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive has advised the unemployed youth to take advantage of the government’s training programmes and equip themselves with vocational and technical skills to enable them to be economically self-reliant.
He said the government has empowered and provided the needed logistics at the various Integrated Community Centres for Employable Skills (ICCES) to afford the unemployed youth the opportunity to acquire skills for decent living.
Mr Yeboah said this at the opening of the Ashanti Region ICCES third annual two-day inter-ICCES games festival at Nerebehi in the Atwima District of the Ashanti Region on Friday.
More than 750 participants from Nerebehi, Tetrefu, Baworo, Dwease-Praso, Asiwa, Konkoma, Offinso-Amoawi, Jacobu-Afrako, Sanfo-Aduam, Akutuase, Otaakrom and Twedie ICCES competed in male and female soccer and volleyball.
The Nerebehi team emerged the men’s soccer champions while Baworo won the female soccer trophy with Offinso-Amoawi taking the volleyball trophy.
Mr S.V. Apraku-Mensah, the National Director of ICCES commended the participants for their discipline, comportment and excellent display of sporting skills which unearthed good talents and potentials for their future development.
He advised the ICCES trainees to take their programmes seriously and work very hard to achieve their set objectives to ensure a better future.
Mr Robert Yaw Baah, the Nerebehi Centre Manager explained that the festival was initiated to forge unity and understanding among the trainees and to make them share ideas and experiences in their various field of training.
Mr Baah, who was chairman of the festival organising committee, observed that the laudable objectives of the ICCES training programmes could yield the desired results if adequate tools, equipment and other logistics were provided.
He therefore appealed to non-governmental organisations, institutions and individuals to assist the youth in their desire to acquire employable skills.
