Unemployed stabs colleague to death

Sunyani, Dec. 27, GNA – The Brong Ahafo Regional Police has mounted a manhunt for Isaac Apraku, a 25- year old unemployed, who allegedly stabbed to death Yaw Asampana, a 22-year old fitting apprentice, with a broken beer bottle in Sunyani.

Chief Superintendent Christian Yohuno, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander told newsmen that the incident occurred around 0400 hours on Wednesday, December 27, when the deceased in the company of the suspect and some other friends were returning from a Christmas dance at a restaurant and drinking spot in Sunyani.

He said on the way, one of Apraku’s friends, Kwabena Badu, a 20 year old JSS One student, touched the buttocks of the lady with the deceased. The deceased became offended and in a resultant fight Apraku struck Asampana’s head with a beer bottle.

The suspect then used the broken part of the bottle to stab the neck of the deceased rendering him unconscious.

Chief Superintendent Yohuno said Asampana was rushed to the Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

He said Apraku, sensing danger took to his heels but some friends of the deceased managed to arrest Badu, who is assisting the Police to trace Apraku.

In another development the Police have arrested three persons from Kumasi for stealing quantities of underground cables belonging to Ghana Telecom.

They are Kobi Addo, 30, scrap dealer; Yussif Amadu, 23, and Wisdom Agbo, 19, a trader.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Lamptey Lawson said the Police had information on December 26, 2006 that some people were loading some sacks, with items believed to be stolen, into the booth of a Kumasi-bound vehicle He said the Police quickly moved to the place and discovered that they were stolen cables.

ASP Lawson said the accused were arrested and sent to the Police station together with the items.
