Tarkwa (w/r), March 27, GNA – A Tarkwa circuit court has remanded a 20 year old unemployed Haruna Salifu into police custody on three counts of possessing fire arms and ammunition without authority and preparation to commit robbery. He pleaded not guilty on count three. Haruna Salifu would re-appear in court on April 9, 2009. Prosecuting, DSP Joseph Apaloo told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on March 24, 2009 at about 0930 hours Salifu was spotted lying behind the Tarkwa Railway Station by a petty trader. He said the trader raised an alarm on suspicion that the accused might be a criminal.
The alarm attracted a lot of onlookers to the scene, who decided to hand him over to the police together with his (Salifu) yellow polythene bag containing personal effects. Police search into Salifu’s bag revealed a compact disk and Deck player which he claimed ownership of.
Again the accused told the police he had left one of his bags at where he was arrested. The police therefore accompanied him to the scene for the bag which was found to contain three mini cartridges and a locally manufactured pistol he claimed ownership of. 28 March 09
