Unemployed man granted bail for attempted stealing.

Tema, Aug. 14, GNA — The Tema circuit court ‘A’ has granted a 15 million-cedi bail to an unemployed man who attempted to steal from a beer bar at Jerico, Ashaiman and for escaping from lawful custody. Munini Srakato pleaded not guilty and would reappear on August 31, 2004.

Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on July 26, 2004, at about 2:30 pm, the complainant was relaxing when he saw the accused hovering around the drinking bar, at the time when the bar keeper was asleep.

She said the accused took advantage of that, walked straight to the counter and headed towards the drawer containing the daily sales. Inspector Acquah said the complainant quickly rushed on the accused behind the counter and raised an alarm, leading to his arrest and he was escorted to the Ashaiman North Police Station.

She said when accused was later being sent to Ashaiman Main Police Station, he took to his heels but was given a hot chase by the police and with the help of some people he was re-arrested.

After investigations, he was charged with the offence of attempted stealing, being in premises unlawfully and escaping from lawful custody.
