Unemployed man fined GH¢ 5,000.00 over firearm

An unemployed caught with an illegal gun and ammunition has been sentenced to a fine of GH¢ 5,000.00 by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kpaafa Kuubabezie would spend 36 months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

A bag in which the weapon was concealed in was found by a police highway patrol team at Abofour, on the Kumasi-Techiman road.

He was charged with possessing firearm and ammunition without lawful authority and pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Ansah that the incident happened on September 2.

The convict denied ownership of the gun and cartridge, claiming that the bag in which the gun was concealed in belonged to his deceased brother.
