Cape Coast Feb. 14, GNA – Kwesi Eshun, unemployed, from Ntafrewaso, was on Monday jailed two years for stealing two bags of cocoa beans and escaping from lawful custody.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Henry Tanor, told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that on January 20 last year, Eshun went to the cocoa shed of the FADECO Buying Company and stole two bags of fresh cocoa bean.
A witness who saw Eshun gave him a chase. He abandoned the beans and went into hiding and was not seen again until February 7 this year, when he resurfaced and went to the same cocoa shed to steal two bags of dried cocoa beans.
The prosecution said after stealing the beans he poured it into two fertilizer bags and later sold them to the purchasing clerk of the Company.
The purchasing clerk later detected the theft of some bags of cocoa beans from the shed and suspecting Eshun, reported the matter to the police and he was arrested. During investigations he admitted stealing the cocoa beans.
Inspector Tanor said when Eshun was being escorted to the cells he jumped over the counter at the Police Station and took to his heals. He was chased and re-arrested at a distance of about a mile.
