Unemployed jailed for supplying narcotic drugs

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Kweku Adjei, unemployed, to three years imprisonment for supplying narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

Adjei pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court, which was presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, also fined the convict GHc120.00 and ordered that the exhibits be destroyed by the investigator under the supervision of the court’s registrar by the end of the day.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh said the complainants were George Fofie and B.A Gyamfi, police officers, stationed at Adabraka in Accra while the convict resided at Tema.

The prosecution said on March 7, 2012, the complainants, who were on patrol duty received a tip off that the convict was on board a taxi with the drugs at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

DSP Morkeh said the police officers went to Nkrumah Circle and arrested Adjei on board a taxi.

DSP Morkeh said immediate search on him revealed two compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp in his bag.

The prosecution told the court that, in his caution statement the convict admitted ownership and told police that he bought the exhibits at GHc20.00, each at Tema.

He said on March 10, 2012, the convict took police to roam Tema, but could not locate where he bought the exhibits.
