Unemployed jailed for stealing

Nsuta(Ash), Dec. 2, GNA – The Nsuta Circuit court last Tuesday sentenced Ali Baba 18, unemployed to two years imprisonment on his own plea for stealing. Police Inspector Solomon Etrew told the court presided over by Mr. Uuter P. Dery that the complainant, Mr. Alex Adu-Mensah, a national service personnel attached to the Afigya-Sekyere district assembly, was lodging at the assembly’s guesthouse at Jamasi. He said on the afternoon of November 18, this year, the complainant returned home from work and detected that his mobile phone valued at 1.3 million cedis had been stolen from his room.

Police Inspector Etrew said enquiries made by the complainant led to the arrest of Baba, an errand boy for lodgers at the guesthouse and a report was made to the Jamasi police. The prosecution said, during interrogation, the accused confessed stealing the mobile phone and told the police that he sold it to a certain driver’s mate at Aboaso for 20,000 cedis but efforts to trace the alleged driver’s mate proved futile and Baba was charged with the offence.
