Unemployed jailed 2 years for stealing mobile phones

A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced Isaac Oppong, 25, an unemployed to 2 years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing three mobile phones valued GH¢1,980

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, on May 12 at about 1730hours, the complainant visited his building site at Aboso housing estate in the Prestea Huni/Valley district with his wife.

He said on reaching the site, the complainant parked his vehicle with the windows opened and left behind two Samsung and one I-mobile phones all valued at GH¢1,980 in the car, and went with the wife to inspect the project.

According to the Prosecutor, the convict who lives in the same vicinity was spotted around a packed concrete block at the site, made a swift move around the vehicle which aroused the suspicion of the complainant’s wife.

He said the wife quickly checked inside the vehicle and noted that the mobile phones had disappeared.

Inspector Amponsah said the complainant’s wife suspected Oppong and gave him a hot chase but he managed to escape.

The Prosecutor said the case was reported to the police and he was arrested later.

He said upon interrogation, the convict admitted committing the crime and stated that he has given the phones out as pledges for money.

He said the phones were given to one Salifu Seidu and another by name Frank Ofosu Agyemang for GH¢25 and GH¢30 respectively.

Inspector Amponsah said the convict led the police to retrieve all the three mobile phones and after investigation he was charged for the offense.**
