Unemployed jailed 15 years for defilement

Juaso (Ash), April 15, GNA- A 19 year-old unemployed is to spend the next 15 years in prison for satisfying his sexual urge at the expense of a 15 year-old girl.

Kwame Gyimah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea by the Juaso Circuit Court. Police Superintendent Francis Agrippa Oppong, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr S. K. Sarpong Appiah that both the victim and the convict lived at Atwedie near Juaso.

On April 5, at about 2100 hours, the victim who was returning home after studying with a friend met the Gyimah, a school dropout. Gyimah requested to have sex with her but she declined. The convict then pounced on her, resulting in a scuffle and in the process, he pulled a knife, compelling the victim to succumb. He said the victim later informed the mother, who reported the case to the Juaso Police. A Police medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital and the report confirmed that she had been defiled. Police Superintendent Oppong said during interrogation, Gyimah admitted the offence.
