Unemployed in court for stealing Assembly’s cash

Kade, Aug 17, GNA – Richard Gbegbe Ababio, unemployed, on Tuesday appeared before the Kade District Magistrate Court charged with conspiracy to steal, stealing and forgery of document.

He pleaded not guilty.

Charged with him was Frank Kwadwo Eshun, an account clerk now at large, and for whom a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Detective Inspector F. K. Borkor, prosecuting, told the court that Eshun was an accounts and in July the two conspired to steal the assembly’s HIPC Fund cheque leaflet number 186776.

He said Ababio forged the signatures of the official signatories and cashed GHC 19,500 from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).

The prosecutor said a few weeks earlier, Eshun presented a fake industrial attachment letter from the University of Ghana pretending to be a student of the university and was to undertake his industrial attachment with the Finance Department of the assembly.

He was engaged as a student on his industrial attachment at the finance department and he used that opportunity to steal the cheque leaflet.
