Unemployed fined GH¢240.00 for stealing five tyres

Harry Dodzi, a 25-year-old unemployed has been sentenced to a GH¢240.00 fine by the Kade District Magistrate’s Court for unlawfully entering into a shop and stealing five lorry tyres.

He pleaded guilty and was to either pay the fine or serve six months imprisonment in hard labour in default.

Dodzi was however ordered to pay GH¢90.00 to the complainant in the presence of the court.

Giving the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Francis Cobina told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu that the complainant, Joseph Appiah, is a car mechanic and a dealer in lorry tyres at Kade.

He said Dodzi was also a former apprentice to Appiah and was sacked from his employment four months ago as a result of series of thefts in the shop.

The complainant then decided to keep his tyres in the shop of a friend, Noah, at the close of each day’s work.

On February 02, the complainant went to Noah’s shop to convey his tyres only to detect that thieves had broken into it and made away with five of his tyres.

A report was made to the police and on February 08 at about 0900 hours, the complainant spotted Dodzi offering two lorry tyres for sale at Kade Zongo and caused his arrest and handed him over to the police.

Chief Inspector Cobina said during the interrogation Dodzi admitted the offence.
