Unemployed charged for possessing narcotic drug

An Accra circuit court on Tuesday remanded Prince Gidi, also known as children, into prison custody for allegedly possessing 60 wraps of rocky and 38 wraps of powdery substances suspected to be narcotic drug.

The accused person, unemployed, who pleaded guilty, would re-appear before the court on August 13.

The court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, deferred judgment and ordered the police to complete their investigation since the accused claimed the exhibits were not for him.

Chief Inspector Isaac Agbemehia, prosecuting, told the court that on August 5 at about 05:45am, the narcotic unit acted on intelligence and proceeded to Achimota railways, which was noted to be a narcotic drug peddling spot.

He said on reaching there, the police personnel saw the suspect holding a black polythene bag which he suddenly dropped to the ground on seeing them (personnel).

“He was quickly arrested and the polythene bag retrieved from the ground,” he said.

Chief Inspector Agbemehia said upon interrogation he claimed ownership of the exhibit and mentioned one Tahiru as the supplier.

He said efforts were still underway to arrest Tahiru for questioning while the exhibit had been forwarded for examination.
