Begoro, Dec 12, GNA – The Begoro branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has said it would introduce on-the-spot fine of 500,000 cedis on any driver who committed traffic offence during the Christmas. This was consensus reached at a meeting the branch held on Sunday at Begoro on measures to prevent motor accidents during the Christmas.
The Begoro No. 1 branch Chairman of GPRTU, Mr Alex Kwabena Amoama, said a task force has been put in place to assist GPRTU guards to instil discipline in drivers. He said the offences that would attract the fines are wrong over-taking, over-speeding, over-loading of vehicles, non-maintenance of vehicles, driving under the influence of alcohol, insulting passengers and using mobile phones while driving.
The Begoro No. 1 Secretary, Mr Kwame Sarpong, appealed to passengers to report drivers who violated traffic regulations to the executives for the appropriate sanctions. The drivers complained about the activities of timber trucks that ply the area at night without headlight, posing danger to passenger vehicles. They appealed to the executives to invite vehicle owners to their subsequent meetings.
