Under-sized fishing nets seized at Aboadze, Abuesi

Aboadze (W/R), Aug. 11, GNA — The Fisheries Security Taskforce has seized a quantity of under-sized fishing nets in Aboadze and Abuesi, in the Shama District of the Western Region.

Mr Benjamin Dadzie, a fisherman at Aboadze told the Ghana News Agency that, the taskforce undertook the exercise at Aboadze on Tuesday and continued to Abuesi on Wednesday August 10.

He said under-sized fishing nets of a number of fisher folks in the two coastal towns were seized to enforce the fisheries law (LI 1968), which was passed last year.

Mr Dadzie lauded the move by the taskforce and encouraged them to continue enforcing the law to save the fingerlings from being killed.

He also entreated the taskforce to arrest fishermen, who are still using light and other explosives for fishing, to save the fishing industry from total collapse.
