Apam, Sept. 14, GNA – The unavailability of communal land has delayed the building of a multi-purpose community centre for the people at Apam, the initiator of the project has said. Mr Joe Kingsley Hackman, who is also the MP for the area, said he had been looking for a plot of land in the past two years for the facility, which had been designed to house a library and a computer training centre.
He said this at the inauguration of a statue at Apam roundabout last Friday.
He appealed to custodians in the Apam area to stop the indiscriminate sale of land to private developers at the expense of community projects.
Mr. Hackman initiated the erection of the statue, which depicts a fisherman carrying a paddle and a net on the shoulder. The MP said he had helped about 300 needy students to further their education. Alhaji B. Gibrine, Central Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, said with the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the capitation grant, the government had placed the poor and the rich on equal levels. Ms. Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, appealed to politicians to deliver their campaign messages devoid of insults and personal attacks in order to sustain the peace.
