Unauthorised gatherings cannot continue indefinitely – Registrar

Accra, Sept. 14, GNA – The authorities of University of Ghana, Legon, said on Tuesday that the daily unauthorised gatherings at fora on campus followed by processions as well as attempts by students to enter lecture halls to disrupt lectures cannot be permitted to continue indefinitely.

A statement issued in Accra by the registrar said these should stop so as to better deliver services for which students have already paid. The statement said students who have decided that they wish to curtail their semester by not attending lectures must realise that they have no reason to continue to remain on the campus.

“The student leadership and those supporting them are strongly advised to take note and advise themselves accordingly.” The statement said a large proportion of students registered for the semester is keen on carrying on with academic work and continues to attend lectures even in the face of the disruptive activities of and persistent threats and intimidation by their leadership and a few supporters.

The University authorities said it has come to their notice that some of the people participating in these disruptive activities are not students. “The University wishes to reiterate its stand that under no circumstances whatsoever will the current semester be rescheduled.”
