UN Secretary-General congratulates Ghana for peaceful elections

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Ban Ki Moon, has congratulated the people of Ghana on the peaceful holding of their Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

A statement issued in New York by the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said: “He extends his congratulations to President Mahama and all presidential candidates for their exemplary conduct throughout the campaign period, and for their commitment to maintaining peace, especially as shown in their signing of the Kumasi Declaration.

“The Secretary-General takes note of the declaration of the final results by the Electoral Commission, which he commends for its continued commitment to the professional and transparent organization of elections.”

The statement said Mr Moon encouraged the concerned parties to continue to use legal means to resolve all disputes.

It emphasized that “all actions taken in this critical period should contribute to preserving peace and stability in Ghana”.
