Koforidua, April 7, GNA – The UN Gender System Programme has donated a computer and its accessories to the Eastern Regional office of the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Ghana Police Service at Koforidua on Wednesday. The National Director of the WAJU, Chief Superintendent Esther Appiah, on behalf of the programme director, Mrs Joana Opare, presented the items, which were received by the Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP Vincent Dzakpata at a ceremony.
In a short speech, Chief Supt. Appiah explained that the presentation formed part of the programme to computerise the operations of the WAJU in all the regions.
According to her, the UNFPA had donated similar items for the national secretariat while the ActionAid supplied those for the Central and Northern Regions and appealed to other non-governmental organisations to make similar donations to the rest of the six regions to enhance their operations. Speaking to newsmen, the Eastern Regional head of the WAJU,
Superintendent Elizabeth Allandu, said the computer would help the office collate and store data on crimes against women and children in the region, mostly defilement and child neglect.
