Dr. Rod Pullen, British High Commissioner in Ghana, has disclosed that, the United Kingdom (UK) is expected to release an amount of between 550-650 billion cedis to Ghana by the end of the year.
This is intended to promote the bilateral partnership between the two nations. Ghana, which happens to be the most beneficiary of British support, is expected to use the money to facilitate its development projects.
Dr. Rod Pullen made these known during the launching of the “Internet Training Programme” for young members of the Community Sports Project (CSP), by the British Council in Accra yesterday.
The project will provide the youth who have no access to the information on the worldwide web to useful information which will help in the development of the community.
The British in collaboration with B.B.C have also established a football culture website at all the British centres, to open the gate way for the youth to interact and learn from football maestros in UK and other parts of the world.
The High Commissioner charged the youth to exploit the opportunity at hand, to help the nation to close the ‘Digital Divide’ between it and the developed world.
Dr. Pullen said 150 pairs of training shoes have been presented by Mr. Roger Gale, who visited the country on behalf of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister for Youth and Sports, said “the government is committed to providing the requisite structures and resources to facilitate the development of young people.”
The Minister appealed to the British Council to extend the project to other communities. Mr. Ben Koufie, Chairman, Ghana Football Association, announced that the association has devised a five-year development plan for youth under 20 years, which would propel them to become stalwart footballers.
