UK-based doctor donates in support of quality healthcare delivery

United Kingdom (UK)-based Ghanaian health professional, Dr Eric Owusu, has presented assorted medical items costing about GH¢350,000.00 to aid efficient management of diabetes in the Amansie Central District.

These included greasy syringe pumps, blood pressure monitor, clinical thermometers and medications.

Dr Owusu, who is a medical specialist and citizen of the area, also took health personnel in the area, comprising the district health management team (DHMT), doctors and nurses at the Jacobu Saint Peter’s Hospital, through the proper use of the items.

The donation was hailed as a significant intervention that would help to bring relief to people suffering from the disease.

Dr Owusu expressed worry about the high incidence of diabetes in the district and said more was needed to be done to reduce it. Between year 2012 and 2013, total cases seen, stood at 890.

He called for aggressive battle to be waged on the disease – a leading cause of blindness, amputation and kidney failure.

Mr Timothy Twumasi-Mensah, the District Director of Health Services, said they were grateful for the gifts and pledged to use the medication to soothe patients’ pain and suffering.

The Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, commended Dr Owusu for the gesture and urged other citizens’ resident abroad to emulate.
