UK Auditor General arrives in Accra on Wednesday

Accra, June 9, GNA – Sir John Bourn, Comptroller and Auditor General of the United Kingdom (UK) would arrive in Accra, on Wednesday for a three-day working visit to the country.

The visit would afford the Comptroller the opportunity to review the European Union (EU) sponsored Technical Assistance Programme to the Ghana Audit Service, the management of which the National Audit Office of the United Kingdom has taken over from the Swedish National Audit Office since June last year.

The review precedes a possible continuation of the programme to its second phase, after the EU has approved of its managers.

While in the country, Sir Bourne would hold meetings with Vice President Aliu Mahama, Finance Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo, the Auditor General Mr Edward Dua-Agyeman, Dr Stefan Frowein the EU Ambassador. He would also address staff of the Audit Service and go on a trip to Akosombo.

Sir Bourn, educated at the London School of Economics, with a PhD, has since 1999 been the Auditor General of Wales.

He has since 2000 been the Chairman of the Review Board, which is currently responsible for monitoring the standard setting activities operated by accountancy bodies in the UK and the Republic of Ireland as well as their systems of discipline, professional conduct and regulation.

Among other positions, Sir John is also the Chairman of the Multilateral Audit Advisory Group of the World Bank and a Member of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors and the Governing Board of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions. He is also a Companion of the Institute of Management and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
