UHAS donates EEG Machine to Regional Hospital

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho has donated an Electro-encephalography (EEG) Machine to the Volta Regional Hospital.

The Machine was a gift from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to UHAS, Professor Fred Binka, Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, said at the presentation ceremony at the University campus on Monday.

Prof Binka said the Machine, which measures normal and abnormal waves in the brain, would help the hospital to handle problems associated with the brain such as blood clots and epilepsy.

It will also help to diagnose and treat accident victims with head injuries.

He said the donation was the beginning of a collaboration between the University and the Regional Hospital, towards its upgrading into a Teaching Hospital.

Dr John Tampure, Acting Medical Superintendent who received the Machine, described it as a significant addition to the equipment stock of the Hospital in its quest for excellence.

He said the Hospital stood to benefit tremendously from the calibre of professionals at the UHAS and appealed to the Vice-Chancellor for help in getting professionals to handle the EEG machine.

A team of lecturers from the Centre for Continuing Education, University of Education Winneba (UEW), are conducting a three-day training workshop on “Effective teaching” for 25 new lecturers of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho.

The new lecturers in Nursing and Midwifery, Public Health and Biomedical Sciences would be schooled in “effective teaching methods, practical evaluation, course manual development and teaching philosophy among others.
