UEW to offer 25% admission to SSS graduates

Winneba, Oct 18, GNA – The University of Education, Winneba, would from next academic year offer 25 percent of its admissions directly to qualified senior secondary school graduate who are ready to join the teaching profession.

Prof Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, the Vice Chancellor of the University, said this at the 12th matriculation of the University at Winneba on Saturday.

Some 3,796 were admitted to the university to pursue programmes at the Bachelor of Education level at its three campuses at Winneba, Kumasi and Ashanti-Mampong.

Prof Anamuah-Mensah reminded the fresh students that they were at the university to be trained to enable them to effectively handle the development of the children.

“Some of you are being prepared to become heads of schools who would be expected to manage and supervise instruction which is a weak point in the education system”, he said.

Prof Anamuah-Mensah said he hoped the new education reform would pay attention to this and appoint heads of schools on contract for four (4) years and that any renewal should be based on performance. Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area chaired the function.
