UEW credit Union inaugurated office complex

Winneba, Jan. 27, GNA – The University of Education Co-operative Credit Union is acquiring land at the College of Technology Education in Kumasi to build a students’ hostel to minimize accommodation problem facing students. The former chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union, Mr Francis Narh Akrono, said this at the inauguration of a 453,000 Ghana Cedis banking hall, offices and stores built by the Credit Union at Winneba on Tuesday. The inauguration also coincided with the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Union.

“With the completion of a mighty banking hall and Stores complex in Winneba, we would like to appeal to management of the University for a parcel of land at the College of Technology Education for a students’ hostel project”.

Mr Akrono said the Board of Directors of the Union had decided to enter the risk management scheme with Credit Union Association (CUA) so that all loans could be insured against death and disability. Mr Akrono said in his report that the Union’s total assets increased from Ghc 1,213,084.72 in 2008 to Ghc1, 533,127.36 in 2009. The chairman said the Union’s total net surplus increased from Ghc 48,738.72 in 2008 to Ghc 62,337.85 in 2009. He said the Union currently has total membership of 1,187 from the three satellite campuses at Winneba, Kumasi and Ashanti Mampong, made up of 899 men and 288 women. Prof Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, inaugurated the building. 27 Jan. 10
