UE records 85 road accident

Bolgatanga, Oct. 29, GNA – The Upper East Region for the first and third quarter recorded 85 reported cases of road accidents, Mr. Isaac Nsoh Amoah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga said. He disclosed this when he launched a campaign against fatigue driving organised by the National Safety Commission for drivers and stakeholders on Monday in the region.

Mr. Amoah attributed the spate of road accidents to fatigue driving, drunken driving and over speeding and urged drivers to desist from these practices that cause road accidents.

He noted that people who were mostly bread winners had lost their lives making it difficult for families to fend for themselves. Mr. Amoah appealed to drivers, especially motor riders in the municipality to respect road traffic regulations and also admonished motor riders to wear crash helmets when riding to avoid accidents. He appealed to the Police Service to bring recalcitrant drivers and other notorious road users to book by disciplining them to serve as deterrent to other drivers who violated traffic regulations. The MCE commended the Road Safety Commission for the execution of the exercise.
