UDS to introduce new programmes

Navrongo (U/E) Oct. 4, GNA – Professor Haruna Yakubu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Development Studies, (UDS) at the weekend announced that Forensic Science and Desert Studies would soon be introduced at the school. He noted that the school was growing and needed to introduce innovative and relevant demand-driven academic programmes, saying that, two undergraduate programmes: Bachelor of Education; and Bachelor of Integrated Development Studies; and three graduate programmes: MSC. Leadership and Development; MSC. Business Finance and Microcredit; and MSC Philosophy, Community Health and Development have been introduced this year.

The Vice Chancellor made the announcement, in a speech read on his behalf, by Professor Kwabena Kyei Aboagye, Dean, School of Medicine, UDS, when he matriculated 7,028 students at a ceremony in Navrongo. The Vice Chancellor stated that the Post Graduate Studies offered a basis for continuous growth and relevance of a university to the growing needs of society and the country.

Thus, the unique training offered by the university to its products would be boosted if the school offers training at the post graduate level to its own graduates and other interested persons desirous of benefiting from its unique academic experience. He said the university would not relent in its efforts to mould well-trained scholars who have strong commitment to assisting the rural folk in finding solutions to their deprivations, environmental problems and poverty.

The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Dr. Kenneth Pelig-ba, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the government in improving the deplorable state of the infrastructure of the university. He, however, pleaded for improvement in roads, street lights and police patrols in the night for fear of thieves taking advantage of darkness in the university.
