UCC to introduce physical and biological science courses

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is to introduce physical and biological science courses into its distance learning education programme.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Chancellor announced this at the 43rd Congregation of UCC, during which 3,304 students graduated through the distance education programme and were offered degrees and diplomas in Basic Education and Commerce and Business Management.

She said learning the sciences through distance education is possible, adding that a study is being conducted to enable the University reappraise the course contents at the UCC’s Centre for Continuing Education (CCE).

Based on recommendations new courses will be introduced whilst the activities of tutors at the CCE will also be examined and given the necessary boost to enhance quality higher education and further create more avenues for people to access university education.

The Vice Chancellor cautioned that, the University would not compromise on standards and will therefore continue with its frequent assessments of both students and tutors to attain its vision of improving on standards.

The construction of lecture and accommodation projects she noted, are progressing sturdily at the Accra, Nyaakrom, Wa campuses.

Reverend Prof Emmanuel Addow Obeng, immediate past Vice-Chancellor of UCC who gave a motivational speech urged the graduates to use their certificates profitably to effect change in the society.

He asked them to eschew all forms of corruption, indiscipline and “get rich quick” syndrome as they will one day give account of the degrees and diplomas they have been awarded.**
